Walter Bartelt, 92, died Monday, April 1, 2015, in a local hospital.

He was a native of Pease, Minnesota and had been a resident of Vinton since 1976, where he started the K.O.A. Campground. Walt enjoyed golfing and watching sports. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, having served in the combat infantry in central Europe. He had worked for Blau Knox Company and then retired with Northwestern Bell Telephone Company after 30 years of service. Walter Bartelt, 92, died Monday, April 1, 2015, in a local hospital.

He was a native of Pease, Minnesota and had been a resident of Vinton since 1976, where he started the K.O.A. Campground. Walt enjoyed golfing and watching sports. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, having served in the combat infantry in central Europe. He had worked for Blau Knox Company and then retired with Northwestern Bell Telephone Company after 30 years of service. Walt was a member of Welsh Memorial United Methodist Church of Vinton and The Qwest Pioneer's of America.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Edna Bartelt of Vinton; daughter, Penny Dupre of Carlyss; two grandchildren, Karrie Dupre and Holly Maurer; six great-grandchildren, Mavrick Dupre, Zachary Maurer, Sydney Maurer, Paige Maurer, Cody Maurer, and Jube Maurer; a special niece, Mary Ann Winge; seven Godchildren, Darwin, Lynne, Adele, Edie, Gordon, Sally, and Joe; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and six siblings.

His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 4, in Welsh Memorial United Methodist Church of Vinton under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Vinton. The Rev. Roger Templeton and Pastor Rick Watson will officiate. Visitation will be held in the church from 4-8 p.m. Friday and from 1 p.m. until the time of service Saturday, all in the church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Welsh Memorial United Methodist Church, 1110 Horridge Street, Vinton, LA 70668.
